Dipterocarpus alatus or colloquially referred to as the Resin Tree or Yang Na in Thailand, is the largest species of trees found in tropical and sub-tropical rainforests.
Legends say it can grow up to 100 meters tall, however, with a height of 47 m and a circumference of 8.3 meters, the oldest still living Resin tree stands in Chiang Mai. According to Monumentaltrees.com, It is approximately 225 years old.
There may be another giant of this species in Thailand, if you believe Lonely Planet, it is 54 m tall and the tallest tree on Koh Phangan (an island in the South).
Dipterocarpus altus is a popular tree to plant along roadsides or rice paddies, and due to its drought tolerance, it is widely planted in Thailand's driest region, Isaan. It's IUCN coservation status is "Vulnerable".

Uses
The Raisin tree's timber is valued for cabinet making, and frequently exploted for its oily resin. The resin is used for wood lacquering, drought-proofing of boats and traditional medicine. The bark of young trees, so its said, is used to treat rheumatism and liver diseases.
